U’khand to announce themes for 13 new tourist destinations

why ?   

  • In an attempt to bolster the image of Uttarakhand as the preferred tourist destination in the country and to attract visitors to places beyond prominent ones like Nainital and Mussoorie,
  • the state government is planning to develop 13 theme-based tourist spots, i.e. one in each district.
  • An official announcement of the project would be made on March 18, the day when chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat completes one year in office.
  • anouncement aimed  to  develop one tourist destination each in all districts in order to decongest the existing hotspots.
  • Later, an expert committee was constituted under the chief secretary which studied the geographical conditions and viability of the proposal following which the names and themes of the 13 destinations were finalised.
  Government has identified Munsiyari in Pithoragarh district, Kausani in Bageshwar, Katarmal in Almora, Mukteshwar in Nainital, Lohaghat in Champawat, Parag Farm in Udham Singh Nagar, Chopta in Rudraprayag, Tehri lake in Tehri, Khirsu of Pauri district, Chinyalisaur of Uttarkashi, Gairsain-Auli of Chamoli, Chakrata in Dehradun, and Piran Kaliyar and Shaktipeeth in Haridwar district for the project.
 Particular themes district wise
  1.  laser tourism has been finalized as the theme for Munsiyari and Mukteshwar,
  2. tea tourism for Kausani, meditation for Katarmal,
  3. hill station for Lohaghat,
  4. amusement park at Parag Farm,
  5. eco-tourism at Chopta,
  6. water sports for Tehri lake,
  7. hill station and wildlife in Khirsu,
  8. multi-purpose theme at Chinyalisaur,
  9. winter sports and knowledge town for Gairsain-Auli,
  10. Mahabharata circuit and heritage tourism for Chakrata and
  11. religious tourism for Piran Kaliyar and Shaktipeeth.
  Project would not only boost the tourism sector but also provide holistic development in the entire state.
