The UKPSC Result 2024 rewarded many patient aspirants. Among them, Ambarish Prasad Nautiyal Rank 12 UKPSC 2024 secured the post of Finance Officer. Notably, he comes from a science background with an MSc in Physics.
He recently shared his journey in a detailed success talk with SAMVEG IAS. Therefore, here are the most useful lessons from that conversation.
Major Highlights of Ambarish Prasad Nautiyal’s Interview with Samveg IAS
An Inspiring Teacher Lit the Spark
Ambarish studied at GIC Gadoli. There, his teacher Pankaj Dixit cleared the IAS exam while Ambarish was in Class 12. As a result, Ambarish discovered civil services for the first time.
Later, he completed his BSc and MSc. Meanwhile, he also did a B.Ed, taught in a school and tried many other paths. However, the state held no PCS exam between 2016 and 2021. So, his first real chance came only in 2021.
From Unstructured Effort to a Clear Plan
In 2021, he reached the mains stage but could not qualify. He admits that his preparation lacked direction then. Consequently, he made a firm decision for the 2024 cycle. “This time, I will not stop at any stage,” he told himself.
The new pattern was another hurdle. Earlier, mains had subject-wise papers. Now, GS 1 to 6 follow a UPSC-like design. Hence, he had to collect material from many scattered sources.
Prelims Strategy of Ambarish Prasad Nautiyal Rank 12 UKPSC 2024
Ambarish calls prelims the biggest filter in Uttarakhand. Many serious aspirants now score very high. Therefore, he advises three things:
- First, study from the main standard sources.
- Second, practise a large number of MCQs.
- Finally, solve previous year questions again and again.
Mains: Crisp Notes and Smart Sources
The mains plan of Ambarish Prasad Nautiyal Rank 12 UKPSC 2024 stands out. He switched from English to Hindi medium after 2021. In fact, the shift itself took him one to one and a half years.
- Hindi: He used Hardev Bahri and Rajkumar for grammar. Also, he practised writing regularly.
- Essay: He wrote an essay every two to three days and got it checked. Additionally, he read Dainik Jagran (Dehradun edition) editorials for rich vocabulary.
- GS 1: He used Drishti quick books for ancient history and Spectrum for modern history. Then, he made notes only on syllabus topics.
- GS 2 and GS 3: He read M. Laxmikanth for polity. For economy, he used Mrunal’s notes and Drishti quick books. Similarly, he researched internal security topics online.
- GS 4: He prepared keywords with examples for every ethics topic.
- GS 5 and GS 6: He merged notes from Pariksha Vani, B.S. Negi and Ajay Rawat. Moreover, he analysed the Uttarakhand Economic Survey and central reports for data.
Above all, his notes were very crisp. For example, his complete GS 1 notes fit into just 25 pages. As a result, he could revise them many times.
His advice is clear. First, solve at least ten years of PYQs from UKPSC, UPPCS and UPSC. Next, make short notes. Finally, keep an example ready for every topic.
Interview: Know Yourself on Paper
“Mains gives you selection, but the interview gives you rank,” says Ambarish. So, he suggests writing down your positives, negatives, education and courses. Then, practise speaking in front of a mirror or with friends.
The One-Hour Rule for Setbacks
One incident shows his mental strength. His RO result came just three days before the Upper PCS mains. Sadly, his name was missing due to a technical issue. Naturally, he felt low.
Then, his brother gave him a simple rule. “Be sad for one hour, and then write your exam.” Thus, he stayed focused and completed his mains.
Additionally, he draws inspiration from cricketers like Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya. Whenever a problem troubles him, he writes it on paper. In his experience, half of it disappears right there.
Social Media as a Reward
Ambarish used social media only from 11:00 to 11:30 pm. After that, he uninstalled the apps. In this way, it became a reward for a productive day.
His Success Mantra
For Ambarish Prasad Nautiyal Rank 12 UKPSC 2024, success needs dedication, perseverance, motivation and patience. Above all, he believes you must stay calm inside, even when a storm rages outside.
Association with SAMVEG IAS
His MSc classmate Pradyumn Singh Chauhan introduced him to SAMVEG IAS during the RO exam. Since then, he has stayed connected for answer writing guidance. He compares the bond to Dronacharya and Arjun.
According to him, Samveg Sir never spoon-feeds. Instead, Sir makes students search and think for themselves. As a result, they retain much more. Interestingly, his younger brother Ashutosh Nautiyal also became Deputy Collector with Rank 3. Clearly, the story of Ambarish Prasad Nautiyal Rank 12 UKPSC 2024 proves that persistence always wins.
