Kanchan Rawat Rank 12 UKPSC 2024: Assistant Commissioner State Tax
The UKPSC Result 2024 proved that steady effort always pays. Kanchan Rawat Rank 12 UKPSC 2024 secured the post of Assistant Commissioner, State Tax. Moreover, this success came in her second attempt, after a narrow miss in 2021.
She recently shared her journey in a warm success talk with SAMVEG IAS. So, here are the most practical lessons from that conversation.
Major Highlights of Kanchan Rawat’s Interview with Samveg IAS
A Daughter of the Hills
Kanchan belongs to Uttarkashi district. She studied at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Pola, till Class 12. Later, she moved to Dehradun for graduation and preparation.
Growing up in the hills shaped her goals. She saw migration, weak health services and poor education facilities in villages. Consequently, she wanted to do something meaningful for the mountains. “I still get emotional when villagers lack basic facilities,” she says.
Setbacks and the Power of a Backup Plan
She started PCS preparation around 2020–21. In the 2021 cycle, she missed the final list by a few marks. Similarly, she missed the final list in the RO exam. Naturally, the 2021 result shattered her for a while.
However, she learnt an important lesson. After that, she always kept backup options ready. She also took up a job, which made her independent. As a result, she could prepare on her own terms without pressure.
Family Support Against the Odds
Her mother supported her day and night. Meanwhile, her father supported her financially and her brother stood by her too. “People say girls do not get such support. However, my family went against those norms for me,” she shares with gratitude.
Prelims Strategy of Kanchan Rawat Rank 12 UKPSC 2024
Kanchan has never failed a prelims exam. In fact, she credits her early CDS and AFCAT preparation for this strength. Her approach is simple:
- Uttarakhand: She read B.S. Negi and Pariksha Vani. Also, she used a current affairs book for state updates.
- State Budget and Economic Survey: These help in both prelims and mains. Therefore, she noted their data and graphs carefully.
- General Studies: First, she built her base with NCERTs during UPSC preparation. Then, she relied mainly on Lucent for prelims.
- CSAT: She found the Uttarakhand CSAT paper manageable with regular practice.
Notably, the 2024 paper had more Uttarakhand questions. Fortunately, she had already studied the state deeply for her 2021 interview.
Mains: Data, Diagrams and Ready-Made Notes
For GS 5 and GS 6, she used Google extensively. She believes no standard Uttarakhand book exists yet like Laxmikanth for polity. For GS 1 to 4, she followed the regular UPSC booklist.
The biggest change for Kanchan Rawat Rank 12 UKPSC 2024 came from studying her own 2021 answer copies. She found that her answers lacked structure and her data looked scattered. So, she fixed three things:
- Ready introductions and conclusions: She kept about two pages per subject for quick revision before each paper.
- Topic-wise data: Also, she stored facts and figures for every topic.
- Visuals: Additionally, she added diagrams, pie charts and data in almost every answer.
“Competition is now cut-throat. Just two or three marks separate candidates,” she explains. Hence, every small edge matters.
Interview: Confidence, Genuineness and Humility
Kanchan shared three clear tips for the interview:
- Confidence: First, trust yourself.
- Genuineness: Boards are very experienced. So, they quickly sense whether you are real or fake.
- Humility: If you make a mistake, say sorry. Similarly, thank the board for any feedback.
Her Success Mantra
For Kanchan Rawat Rank 12 UKPSC 2024, continuity comes first. Never leave your preparation midway. Secondly, Uttarakhand PCS is an uncertain exam. Therefore, always keep a backup plan ready.
Association with SAMVEG IAS
Kanchan has been with SAMVEG IAS since 2022, when she first appeared for Upper and Lower PCS. “Samveg IAS is an emotion for us,” she says.
According to her, the SAMVEG IAS mains test series played nearly a 50% role in her mains success. The tests changed with the new pattern and showed how to deliver answers. Moreover, Sir’s regular messages and the Interview Guidance Programme kept her preparation continuous. Truly, the journey of Kanchan Rawat Rank 12 UKPSC 2024 shows the value of persistence and planning.
