Major Highlights of Lokesh Singh Sajwan’s Interview with Samveg IAS

Background

Lokesh’s village lies in Rudraprayag district. He studied Class 12 in Srinagar (Garhwal). Then, he completed his graduation with PCM in Srinagar. After that, he did his post-graduation in Mathematics. Later, in 2022, he started his civil services preparation.

Prelims: Accuracy Over Attempts

Lower PCS prelims carries 150 marks, and 50 of them come from maths and reasoning. Since he had a maths background, he tried to maximise that part. Also, he had been preparing for three years. So, he strengthened his basics and then added current affairs on top.

Most importantly, he changed his approach this time and focused on accuracy. Out of 150 questions, he attempted 116. However, hardly two or three of them were wrong, as he recalls. Also, read our UKPSC Lower PCS exam guide to understand the full exam pattern.

Mains Strategy of Lokesh Singh Sajwan Rank 7 UKPSC Lower PCS 2024

Lokesh had earlier prepared for UPSC as well. Therefore, he studied the answer copies of UPSC toppers. Then, he pulled out themes from PYQs to see which topics repeat. However, he warns that the new pattern leaves no room to skip topics. So, you must touch every topic in the syllabus.

Moreover, he made crisp one-to-two-page notes on every topic asked in mains. He wrote these notes in answer format, with an introduction and flowcharts. As a result, the same structure came back to him in the exam hall. Still, he adds that your understanding of a topic decides what you can write.

Answer Writing Approach

In his words, this creativity becomes the “X factor” of an answer. Also, he believes steady hard work makes answer writing easy to tackle.

Booklist and Resources

For Uttarakhand-focused prelims, Lokesh calls Lucent and Pariksha Vani “more than enough”. Then, add current affairs from online sources, a magazine or a coaching institute. However, mains needs a very different approach based on clear understanding. Also, he suggests government websites and AI tools for dynamic current affairs.

Interview: From a Nervous First Mock to Selection

Lokesh gave his first mock interview at SAMVEG IAS without any preparation. In fact, he was shivering through it. Moreover, he could not answer basics like the Vice President’s election or the role of the CAG. Still, he told himself that he would tackle it. Then, he worked on his gaps and revised well. Luckily, many questions repeated in his real interview too.

Balance, Support and Self-Kindness

From the start, his goal was clear: an exam with prelims, mains and interview. So, he never looked at other exams. However, he now feels a backup option is also wise. Meanwhile, his parents and younger brother supported him fully. Also, he kept a healthy social life and called friends whenever he felt low.

Similarly, he never cut off social media completely. Instead, he suggests a strict timetable, such as using it only after three hours of study. However, he advises staying fully focused between prelims and mains. “Stay focused, and don’t be hard on yourself,” says Lokesh Singh Sajwan Rank 7 UKPSC Lower PCS 2024.
