NTA Reforms: High-Powered Task Force Led by Nandan Nilekani Set Up

High-powered task force on NTA reforms led by Nandan Nilekani

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a high-powered task force for NTA reforms. Technology expert Nandan Nilekani will lead it. Notably, the task force will recommend ways to make exams more transparent and reliable. Moreover, it will focus on a technology-driven exam system.

Members of the Task Force

Clearly, the team blends technology, security, education and logistics.

Mandate of the Task Force

The task force is a multidisciplinary group of experts. First, it will help revamp NTA exams, mainly from a technology angle. Second, it will suggest structural reforms in the exam system. Thus, it aims to fix both process and design.

About the National Testing Agency

The National Testing Agency (NTA) was set up in 2017. It works under the Ministry of Education. Also, it conducts major exams such as NEET-UG, JEE Main, CUET and UGC-NET. Therefore, millions of students depend on it each year.

Why Reforms Are Needed

Recent years saw controversies around paper leaks and exam errors. For example, issues in NEET-UG 2024 led to protests and court cases. Later, the government formed the K Radhakrishnan committee to suggest reforms. Now, the new task force adds a strong technology focus.

Link With the New Exam Law

In 2024, Parliament passed a law against unfair means in public exams. Later, in July 2026, the government introduced an amendment Bill to make it stronger. Hence, both legal and technical reforms are moving together.

Why NTA Reforms Matter for UPSC and UKPSC
