PM Modi Opens RBI Data Centre and Cybersecurity Institute at Jatni, Odisha

PM Modi inaugurates RBI Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute at Jatni

On 25 October 2026, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the new RBI Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute. The campus stands at Info Valley-II in Jatni, near Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Notably, the project cost about Rs 169 crore. Also, it is the RBI’s first data centre outside Maharashtra. Hence, it adds geographic safety to the systems that run India’s payments.

Inauguration at Jatni on 25 October

After the inauguration, the Prime Minister addressed the gathering. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra attended the event. Also present were Odisha Governor Brajmohan Ram and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Earlier, then-RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das laid the foundation stone on 22 March 2023.

What the Prime Minister Said

Modi said, “The coming decade is about making banking more efficient and trustworthy.” He added, “The new data centre in Odisha is also going to play a major role in this.” Moreover, he stressed, “To keep the banking system secure, we must also protect its digital infrastructure.” In addition, he warned that attacks on the economy can weaken a country. He also said Odisha could write a new growth story “from mines to microchips”.

Features of the RBI Data Centre

The complex houses four data centres for mission-critical payment and settlement systems. Furthermore, it holds Uptime Institute Tier IV certification, the highest resilience standard. In fact, the PMO calls it among the largest Tier IV facilities in the global BFSI sector. Governor Malhotra noted that the RBI’s three existing data centres are all in Maharashtra. Therefore, Bhubaneswar offers geographic separation and a different seismic zone. Also, it will support NEFT, RTGS and the e-Kuber platform.

About the Cybersecurity Training Institute

The institute will train RBI staff, bank employees and other financial-sector personnel. Its focus areas include artificial intelligence, quantum computing, big data analytics and blockchain. Besides, it will research the security of financial systems. Malhotra said, “Cyber security is increasingly becoming important, especially in the wake of AI.”
