SIR in Uttarakhand: Draft Electoral Roll Shows Over 8 Lakh Fewer Voters

Uttarakhand draft electoral roll published after the Special Intensive Revision

Uttarakhand has published its draft electoral roll after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Notably, the draft came out on 14 July 2026. It lists 71,33,785 voters. Moreover, the state now has over 8 lakh fewer voters than before the revision.

Key Figures From the Draft Electoral Roll

Why Names Were Removed

Officials removed names of voters they could not trace. For example, many had moved away or died. Also, teams could not find some at their registered addresses despite repeated visits. Furthermore, the details of around 19 lakh voters showed mismatches. Hence, these voters may get notices for verification.

Timeline of the SIR

During the claims period, voters could check their names and apply for corrections. So, eligible voters had a chance to get back on the roll.

What Is SIR?

SIR stands for Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The Election Commission of India conducts it under the Representation of the People Act, 1950. In an SIR, booth-level officers verify voters house by house. Thus, the aim is a clean and accurate voter list.

Officials in Charge

Dr B V R C Purushottam is the Chief Electoral Officer of Uttarakhand. Also, Vijay Kumar Jogdande is the Additional Chief Electoral Officer.
