Yogendra Rawat Appointed Member of Uttarakhand Public Service Commission

Yogendra Rawat appointed member of the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission

Uttarakhand has appointed Yogendra Rawat as a new UKPSC member. The Governor made the appointment under Article 316(1) of the Constitution. Notably, the Personnel and Vigilance Department issued the notification on 10 August 2026. Moreover, Rawat will serve on the Commission at Haridwar.

Term of the New UKPSC Member

According to the notification, Rawat will hold office for six years from the date he takes charge. However, if he turns 62 earlier, his term will end then. In short, the term lasts six years or until age 62, whichever comes first.

How UKPSC Members Are Appointed

Article 316 deals with appointment and term of PSC members. For a state PSC, the Governor appoints the chairman and members. Also, at least half of the members should have held office under the government for ten years or more. Thus, the Commission blends administrative experience with outside expertise.

Recent Changes at UKPSC

This appointment follows other key changes at the Commission. In July 2026, Lt Gen Gajendra Joshi (Retd) became UKPSC Chairman. At the same time, Dr Hem Chandra Pandey joined as a member. Consequently, the Commission now has a fuller team. Indeed, Rawat was already chairing interview boards for the Lower PCS 2024 interviews.

Role of the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission

UKPSC conducts recruitment exams for state services. For instance, it holds the Upper PCS and Lower PCS exams. Also, it advises the government on recruitment rules, promotions and disciplinary matters. Therefore, a strong Commission is vital for fair and timely recruitment.
