Yudh Abhyas 2026 at Auli: India and US Armies Train for Counter-Terrorism

Yudh Abhyas 2026 India–US joint military exercise at Auli, Uttarakhand

Indian and US Army soldiers trained together at Auli during Yudh Abhyas 2026. The joint exercise focused on counter-terrorism operations. Notably, troops carried out building-clearance and room-intervention drills. Moreover, these drills recreated close-quarter combat situations.

Technology in Yudh Abhyas 2026 Drills

The assault teams used modern technology during the drills. For instance, they worked with drones and robotic dogs. Also, dog squads and snipers supported the teams. Thus, the drills showed how trained soldiers and technology can work as one unit.

During the exercise, US soldiers also interacted with Indian troops. In addition, they studied the equipment on display. As a result, they better understood the skills and methods shown in the drills.

Benefits of the Exercise

The training brought several clear benefits. First, both armies shared professional knowledge. Second, they built a better strategic understanding. Third, they improved their ability to operate together. Hence, the exercise strengthened India–US defence ties.

About Yudh Abhyas

Yudh Abhyas is an annual joint military exercise between India and the United States. It began in 2004. Since then, the venue alternates between India and the US. Typically, the exercise focuses on counter-terrorism and operations under a UN mandate. Similarly, it also covers high-altitude and mountain warfare.

Why Auli Is Important

Auli lies in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, close to Joshimath. It sits at a high altitude near the India–China border. Therefore, it offers ideal conditions for mountain and cold-weather training. Notably, Auli hosted Yudh Abhyas earlier in 2022 as well. Furthermore, the Indian Army runs a Foreign Training Node at Auli.

India–US Defence Cooperation

India and the US have deepened defence ties over two decades. For example, they have signed key agreements such as LEMOA, COMCASA and BECA. Likewise, they hold other exercises like Malabar (naval) and Vajra Prahar (special forces). So, Yudh Abhyas is one part of a broad partnership.
