Once again, China has finished at the top of the Asian Games 2026 medal table. The Games took place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, and finally concluded on 4 October 2026. Meanwhile, India secured fourth place with 85 medals. Notably, this included 21 gold medals.

The 20th Asian Games ran from 19 September to 4 October 2026. Japan’s Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya city hosted the event together. Interestingly, this was Japan’s third time as host. Earlier, Tokyo hosted the Games in 1958, and Hiroshima followed in 1994.

According to the final standings, the top five nations were as follows.

Clearly, China stayed far ahead of every other nation. Moreover, it crossed the 300-medal mark once again.

India’s Performance

Overall, India won 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals. However, this total fell short of India’s record at Hangzhou in 2023. Back then, India had won 107 medals, including 28 gold.

Still, the Indian contingent showed a strong late recovery. In fact, India slipped to ninth place by Day 9. Then, a big final push lifted the team into the top four. On 3 October alone, India won five gold medals. Notably, these came in wrestling, golf, cricket, archery and men’s hockey.

Shooting also gave India early success. For instance, trap shooter Neeru Dhanda won two gold medals and one silver. As a result, she carried India’s flag at the closing ceremony. Similarly, the women’s cricket team won gold by beating Sri Lanka in the final.

Closing Ceremony and the Next Host

The closing ceremony took place on 4 October 2026. Spectators also enjoyed Japanese cultural shows, including the bon-odori dance. After that, the Olympic Council of Asia handed the Games flag to Qatar. Thus, Doha will host the next Asian Games in 2030.
