India registers GI products under several categories. As of December 2025, the numbers are:

Uttarakhand’s GI Products

Uttarakhand’s GI list covers crops, crafts and foods. For example, it includes Munsiyari Rajma, Berinag Tea and Almora Lakhori Mirch. Also, crafts like Aipan, Ringal craft and Tamta copperware hold GI tags. Notably, the state won a record 18 GI tags on a single day in December 2023. Recently, it also opened its first GI products gallery in Haldwani.

Why GI Tags Matter

GI tags protect traditional knowledge and stop misuse of names. Also, they build consumer trust. As a result, artisans and farmers can reach premium markets. Furthermore, GI products support tourism and exports. Thus, they drive rural development and cultural pride.
