India hosted the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, in February 2026. It was the first global AI summit hosted in the Global South. The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) organised it under the IndiaAI Mission. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced India’s hosting at the AI Action Summit in France in 2025. The summit rested on three sutras: People, Planet and Progress. Thus, India sought to steer global AI talks towards impact and inclusion.
Fourth Summit in the Global AI Series
The summit continued a series of global AI meetings. First came the AI Safety Summit in the UK in 2023. Then came the AI Seoul Summit in 2024 and the AI Action Summit in France in 2025. However, India shifted the focus from safety alone to real-world impact.
Seven Chakras of Cooperation
Besides the three sutras, the summit worked through seven chakras, or areas of cooperation. These included human capital and inclusion for social empowerment. They also covered safe and trusted AI, and resilience, innovation and efficiency. In addition, science and democratising AI resources formed two more chakras. Finally, the seventh chakra covered AI for economic growth and social good.
Latest Update
The summit ran from 16 to 21 February 2026 and ended with the New Delhi Declaration on AI Impact. By 21 February, 88 countries and international organisations had endorsed it, including the US and China. Later, on 24 February, MeitY said the count had risen to 91. Moreover, the declaration follows the principle “Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya” (welfare for all, happiness for all). It also backs voluntary steps such as a Charter for the Democratic Diffusion of AI.
Investments and Other Outcomes
Notably, the summit drew AI investment pledges of nearly $250 billion. In addition, Sarvam AI and BharatGen launched new Indian large language models. Meanwhile, IndiaAI and Intel India set a Guinness World Record with 2,50,946 AI responsibility pledges in 24 hours.
