CM Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Tehri Lake Festival 2026 at Koti Colony on 6 March 2026. Officially, the event carries the name “Himalayan O2 – The Tehri Lake Festival”. Moreover, it ran until 9 March 2026. At the launch, Dhami announced a Koti Colony–New Tehri ropeway. Hence, the festival links adventure sports, culture and tourism in Tehri.
Ropeway and Rs 318 Crore Koti–Dobra Road
First, the ropeway will improve access to the lake. Next, Dhami virtually laid the foundation stone of the Koti–Dobra tourism road. Notably, this road will run about 15 km and cost Rs 318 crore. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is funding it. In addition, projects worth over Rs 1,300 crore are underway in the region, including a ring road.
Water Sports on Tehri Lake
During the festival, the state promoted kayaking, canoeing, jet-skiing, parasailing and scuba diving on the lake. Also, he said more than 400 local youths are training in paragliding. Moreover, Dhami said, “Our rivers, mountains, lakes, and traditions have consistently attracted people from around the world.”
Festival Spreads Across Tehri District
According to local reports, the festival returned after a four-year gap caused by COVID-19. This year, events also reached Narendranagar, Ghansali, Pratapnagar, Dhanaulti and Devprayag. So, the whole district acted as host with treks and cultural programmes. Meanwhile, Tehri District Magistrate Nitika Khandelwal said wider participation can bring more areas onto the tourism map. Later, Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) attended the festival on 8 March 2026 as chief guest. His office reported over 3,500 participants.
