Two young climbers from Uttarakhand have scaled Mount Kilimanjaro. Nine-year-old Riyansh Pant and ten-year-old Prisha Rawat reached the summit on 22 August 2026. Notably, they hoisted the Indian Tricolour at the top. Clearly, their feat has made the whole state proud.
Who Are the Young Climbers?
Master Riyansh Pant lives in Chinakhan in Almora. Meanwhile, Prisha Rawat lives in Bailparao in Nainital district. Both children come from Kumaon. Also, at such a young age, their climb shows rare courage and discipline.
About Mount Kilimanjaro
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. It rises to 5,895 metres in Tanzania. Interestingly, it is also the world’s highest free-standing mountain. In other words, it stands alone and not as part of a mountain range. Moreover, Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano with three volcanic cones. Its highest point is Uhuru Peak on the Kibo cone.
Kilimanjaro and the Seven Summits
Kilimanjaro is one of the famous Seven Summits. These are the highest peaks on each of the seven continents. For example, Mount Everest is the highest in Asia. Similarly, Mount Elbrus is the highest in Europe. So, many climbers begin their Seven Summits journey with Kilimanjaro.
Uttarakhand’s Mountaineering Spirit
Uttarakhand has a long link with mountaineering. For instance, Bachendri Pal became the first Indian woman to climb Everest in 1984. Also, the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarkashi trains climbers from across India. Therefore, the achievement of these children continues a proud tradition.
