What Helped Dehradun Improve

According to the state government, several steps helped the city. For instance, officials focused on controlling dust and checking vehicle emissions. Also, they promoted clean transport and regular road cleaning. In addition, public awareness drives and environmental monitoring played a role. So, the ranking reflects a mix of policy and public effort.

What Is Swachh Vayu Survekshan?

Swachh Vayu Survekshan is an annual ranking of cities on air quality steps. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change runs it through the CPCB. Essentially, it rates cities on their actions under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). Furthermore, it divides cities into three groups by population. These are cities above 10 lakh, cities of 3–10 lakh and cities below 3 lakh.

About the National Clean Air Programme

The Centre launched NCAP in 2019. Its goal is to cut particulate pollution in non-attainment cities. Specifically, it now targets up to a 40 per cent reduction in PM10 levels by 2025–26. Also, cities prepare their own clean air action plans under NCAP. Hence, Swachh Vayu Survekshan tracks how well they deliver.
