About the Award Won by Dholi

Dholi won the Rajat Kamal, or Silver Lotus, in the feature film section. Usually, the National Film Awards honour the best regional language films each year. So, this win places Garhwali cinema on the national stage. Indeed, it is a proud moment for Uttarakhand’s film industry.

Why Dholi Is Special for Uttarakhand

Dholi is a film in the Garhwali language. Also, it reflects Uttarakhand’s rich folk culture, language and artistic heritage. In fact, the very word “dholi” links to the drum players of the hills. The dhol and damau remain central to Garhwali rituals, festivals and folk songs. Therefore, the film celebrates a living tradition of the state.

Following the win, Uttarakhand Governor and the Chief Minister both congratulated the film’s team. They described the award as a new identity for regional cinema.
