Nilesh Bisht Rank 13 UKPSC Lower PCS 2024: Naib Tehsildar

The UKPSC Lower PCS 2024 result rewarded many years of steady effort. Nilesh Bisht Rank 13 UKPSC Lower PCS 2024 secured the post of Naib Tehsildar. Moreover, he achieved it in his second attempt at Lower PCS.

Nilesh comes from Almora and has a science background. In a success talk with SAMVEG IAS, he explained how he prepared for prelims and mains together. So, here are the key lessons from his journey.

Major Highlights of Nilesh Bisht’s Interview with Samveg IAS

From Chemistry to Civil Services

Nilesh completed his graduation with Chemistry Honours. Then, he did his master’s in Chemistry as well. Until around 2020, he knew very little about civil services. However, after the COVID lockdown, he returned home to Almora. There, he met friends who were preparing for state PCS. So, he too started his preparation.

In his first attempt, at Lower PCS 2021, he could not clear prelims. Still, he kept going. Overall, he has now spent about five to six years in this field.

Close Calls and Setbacks

Starting from a science stream was not easy. Therefore, his first two to three years went into building concepts and basics. Meanwhile, he cleared the Upper PCS 2021 prelims. However, he missed the mains cut-off by just two or three marks. Similarly, he cleared the RO prelims but stopped at mains. Even so, he kept compiling notes and practising answer writing.

Preparing Prelims and Mains Together

Since 2021, Nilesh kept making notes on every topic of concern. So, when the new Lower PCS syllabus came, he simply updated these notes. Then, he added static parts, current affairs and other useful inputs. Moreover, he prepared for prelims and mains together. He knew the gap after the prelims result would be short. As a result, he began mains preparation within one or two days of that result.

Prelims Strategy of Nilesh Bisht Rank 13 UKPSC Lower PCS 2024

For prelims, Nilesh relied mainly on Uttarakhand PYQs. In his view, an in-depth analysis of these PYQs is more than enough. That is because questions keep revolving around the same areas. Also, he covered Uttarakhand current affairs from websites and YouTube. Moreover, our UKPSC Lower PCS exam guide explains the full exam pattern.

Mains Answer Writing

The new mains pattern left many candidates unsure about the questions. So, Nilesh first picked up the recent Upper PCS paper. That exam had also changed, with new GS 5 and GS 6 papers. Then, he tried to write answers to all its questions. Once he felt confident, he moved to other state PCS questions from the last two to three years.

For content, he read toppers’ copies and the standard books. Also, he used free online courses by YouTube educators. In addition, he kept a value-addition diary. Whenever a magazine covered a useful topic, he noted it there. Then, he practised using these points in his answers.

Advice for New Aspirants

“Don’t lose patience, and keep self-belief,” says Nilesh Bisht Rank 13 UKPSC Lower PCS 2024. Having changed streams, he knows how hard and slow this path can feel. Still, he warns strongly against shortcuts. In his view, the more you chase shortcuts, the farther your goal moves.

  • First, never think of quitting just because it is taking time.
  • Next, read every topic in depth, not just for one stage.
  • Then, study each topic for both prelims and mains together.
  • Finally, keep working hard, because your time will surely come.
