Uttarakhand Solar Capacity Crosses 1 GW: 1,027.87 MW Installed Across the State

Uttarakhand has crossed a key clean energy milestone. The state’s installed Uttarakhand solar capacity now stands at about 1,027.87 MW. Thus, it has passed the 1 gigawatt (1,000 MW) mark. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the milestone on 18 February 2026. Notably, he credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for green energy.

Where the Capacity Comes From

Ground-mounted solar plants lead with about 397 MW. Next, rooftop plants under PM Surya Ghar add 241 MW. Also, the Mukhyamantri Saur Swarozgar Yojana contributes 137 MW. In addition, commercial net metering adds 110 MW. Captive plants add 51 MW, while canal-top and canal-bank projects add 37 MW. Finally, plants on government buildings add 26 MW. These listed heads total about 999 MW, so other smaller heads make up the rest.

More Projects in the Pipeline

Meanwhile, more capacity is under installation. For example, plants of over 100 MW are coming up under the Saur Swarozgar Yojana. Also, 30 MW of captive plants are in progress. Further, 13.5 MW of plants are being added on government buildings.

What the Chief Minister Said

Dhami said the state has turned solar energy into a “people’s movement”. Moreover, he said central and state schemes have created self-employment for thousands of youth. He also expressed confidence that Uttarakhand will become a leading green energy state.

Role of UREDA

The Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) played a key role. It implemented projects, ran awareness drives and gave technical guidance. Also, it took solar solutions to remote hill areas. As a result, solar power now reaches homes, farms and offices.
