uttarakhand stood 11th among states in the ranking for , ease of doing bussiness prepared by world bank and the Union department of industrial policy and promotion ( dipp),
.The state ranked highest among himalayan states .
While the rank was a dip of two positions from last year, it remained a major feat for the state with limited resources and sources of investment.
In the list released in 2017, Uttarakhand was ranked 9th across the country. According to the latest list, the state had a reform evidence score of 98.10% and feedback score of
60.89%. It took the final score to 94.21%, higher than that of states like and up &Maharashtra.
Uttarakhand is the top ranked Himalayan state. Andhra Pradesh topped the chart whereas
Telangana and Haryana held the second and third positions respectively. Meghalaya was
ranked as the last among states and Union territories, at 36th position on the list.
To strengthen its position, Uttarakhand is planning an investors’ meet in which it is
optimistic of a good turnout of Indian and international investors in October this year. The
state government is even preparing project reports to help investors decide the segment in
which they have to invest.
DIPP in a joint venture with the World Bank conducts an annual reform exercise for all the
states and Union Territories under the Business Reform Action Plan (BRAP). The
assessment under BRAP is based on a combined score consisting of reform evidence
score based on data uploaded by states and UTs and feedback score that is based on
response garnered from the actual users of the services provided to the businesses.
Uttarakhand chief secretary Utpal Kumar Singh told TOI that the ranking was prepared
according to the real-time score and it was heartening to see Uttarakhand hold the 11th
position. “We have been working on strengthening the position for a long time. We want to
invite as many industries as possible and are ready to provide them the required
infrastructure. However, our aim is to be among the top three states of the country, and we
will continue to make efforts in this direction,” Singh said
