Uttarakhand Tableau at Bharat Parv 2026: Atmanirbhar Uttarakhand in Copper Craft

Uttarakhand presented its tableau on the theme “Atmanirbhar Uttarakhand” during the Republic Day 2026 celebrations. The Ministry of Defence introduced it to the media at the National Stadium Camp in New Delhi. Notably, the Atmanirbhar Uttarakhand tableau celebrates the state’s traditional copper craft. Then, it went on display at Bharat Parv at the Red Fort from 26 to 31 January 2026.

Design of the Tableau

The front tractor section carries copper replicas of the dhol and ranasingha. Then, the first part of the trailer shows a large copper manjira statue. Next, the middle part displays copper vessels such as the gagar, surahi and kundi. Also, the side panels depict traditional folk musical instruments. Finally, the rear section shows a coppersmith shaping vessels by hand.

Message of Self-Reliance

The theme links local crafts with the national goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat. So, the tableau presents copper work as a source of income for hill artisans. Moreover, it shows how folk music and household crafts share deep roots. Joint Director (Information) KS Chauhan served as the state’s nodal officer for the tableau.

Copper Craft of Uttarakhand

Copper craft has a long history in Kumaon, especially in Almora. Traditionally, coppersmiths beat sheets into vessels by hand. Families still use the gagar and kundi to store water. Likewise, the dhol and ranasingha accompany weddings and temple festivals.
