The Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly met at Bhararisain, Gairsain, on 27 October 2026. Notably, this Gairsain assembly session set a record. For the first time, the summer capital hosted two sessions in one year. Earlier, the budget session sat there from 9 March 2026.
Two-Day October Session at Bhararisain
The session opened on 27 October and ran for two days. On day one, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami tabled a Rs 7,844.18 crore supplementary budget. Moreover, Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan said 31 MLAs had submitted 445 questions.
Uproar and Sine Die Adjournment
On 28 October, Congress MLAs demanded a debate under Rule 310 on alleged corruption. However, the Speaker declined and offered a discussion under Rule 58 instead. So, the House saw three adjournments amid sloganeering. Finally, the government passed the supplementary budget, and the Speaker adjourned the House sine die.
What CM Dhami Said About Gairsain
According to Amar Ujala, Dhami called Gairsain a symbol of public sentiment and cultural identity. Further, he wants Bhararisain sessions to prioritise the issues of hill regions.
Sessions Held at Gairsain Since 2014
Amar Ujala lists the year-wise sittings at Gairsain. The first session came in 2014 and lasted three days. Then 2015, 2016 and 2017 each saw two-day sessions. Later, sittings ran six days in 2018, five in 2020 and six in 2021. In contrast, 2019 and 2022 had no session there. After that, sessions lasted four days in 2023 and three in 2024.
Correcting the 2025 Record
Some reports list two Gairsain sessions in 2025. However, the state presented its 2025-26 budget in Dehradun on 20 February 2025. So, 2025 saw only the August monsoon session at Bhararisain. Therefore, 2026 stands as the first year with two Gairsain sessions.
