House of Himalayas: Uttarakhand’s Women-Led Brand Crosses ₹6 Crore in Sales

Uttarakhand’s umbrella brand House of Himalayas has crossed about ₹6 crore in sales since its launch. Notably, rural women of the state make most of its products. Moreover, the brand now sells across India and abroad. Clearly, it has grown into a strong business model.

Launch of House of Himalayas

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the brand in December 2023. The launch took place at the Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit in Dehradun. Also, he called it a step towards “Vocal for Local” and “Local for Global”.

Products Under the Brand

At present, the brand has 83 products, including 60 distinct products. For example, these include hill pulses, grains, spices, honey and oils. Similarly, it sells herbal products, personal care items and handicrafts. Also, its website offers millets, rice, ghee, bakery items and more. Furthermore, all products come with modern packaging and uniform branding.

A Women-Centred Model

The brand’s biggest strength is its women-centred livelihood model. In fact, around 5,500 women benefit directly. These women belong to 55 Cluster Level Federations. So, the income from sales goes straight to rural women.

Wide Market Reach

  • E-commerce: Amazon and Flipkart
  • Quick commerce: Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart and BigBasket
  • Own D2C website: Direct sales across India
  • Global: Amazon Global for the US and Canada

What the Chief Minister Said

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said the brand gives local products national and global recognition. Also, he said the aim is to give village products a global market. In turn, women’s SHGs and local producers can earn more.

Link With Lakhpati Didi

The brand also supports the Lakhpati Didi mission. Notably, over 3.03 lakh women in Uttarakhand are already Lakhpati Didi. Hence, better markets help more women cross ₹1 lakh in yearly income.
