The UKPSC Result 2024 carried a special message for rural and Hindi medium aspirants. Prakriti Negi Rank 10 UKPSC 2024 secured the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). Moreover, she did it after missing prelims by just half a mark in her previous attempt.
She recently shared her journey in a candid success talk with SAMVEG IAS. So, here are the key takeaways from the story of Prakriti Negi Rank 10 UKPSC 2024.
Major Highlights of Prakriti Negi’s Interview with Samveg IAS
A Rural, Hindi Medium Background
Prakriti comes from a village in Uttarkashi district. She completed her early education there, entirely in Hindi medium. Later, she graduated in CBZ from SGRR PG College, Dehradun, in 2019.
Her dream of civil services began in Class 9 and 10. After graduation, she moved to Delhi for preparation. However, the COVID-19 pandemic soon disrupted her studies. Overall, her journey took five to six years.
Family: The Real Support System
“When one candidate prepares, the whole family prepares with them,” says Prakriti. Therefore, she gives the biggest credit to her family. In fact, their constant support kept her going through the long wait.
Turning a CSAT Trauma into Motivation
Her first attempt came in UKPSC PCS 2021. Unfortunately, she missed prelims by only 0.5 marks, and that too in CSAT. She admits that she took the easy CSAT paper for granted and attempted fewer questions.
In 2024, the CSAT paper was much tougher. Also, she did not have a maths background. Still, she refused to give up during the paper. Instead, she used her past failure as fuel. As a result, she cleared prelims with good marks.
Mains Strategy of Prakriti Negi Rank 10 UKPSC 2024
The 2024 mains followed a new pattern. Consequently, no previous papers were available for guidance. So, Prakriti followed two simple rules:
- Borrow from other states: She studied mains questions of other state PCS exams. Then, she listed the most repeated topics and covered them well.
- Stick to the syllabus: In her view, anything outside the syllabus troubles everyone equally. Hence, she never wandered beyond it.
Diagrams to Beat Slow Writing
Hindi medium writing is often slower. For example, the shirorekha line takes extra time. Prakriti felt her speed lagged behind her friends.
So, she turned to diagrams, flowcharts and point-wise answers. A single diagram can replace four or five lines. As a result, she saved time and still filled the pages well.
Booklist and Scoring Ideas
- Prelims: NCERTs, Laxmikanth and other basic books. Also, she relied heavily on PYQs and practice.
- Current affairs: She found Ghatnachakra very useful for PCS exams.
- Hindi and Essay: Both papers can be very scoring. For instance, she quoted Uttarakhand folk songs and poems of Girda in her essays. This shows an emotional connection with the state.
- Interview: She made her own notes on her background. Surprisingly, most questions came from those notes.
Interview: Give It Everything
Many people say the interview matters little after good mains. However, Prakriti disagrees. Therefore, she gave everything to interview preparation. She advises aspirants to improve spoken language, take many mocks and learn through experience.
Advice for Hindi Medium Aspirants
According to Prakriti Negi Rank 10 UKPSC 2024, the medium does not make a big difference. Instead, you must analyse your weaknesses and work on them. Above all, stay consistent.
Association with SAMVEG IAS
Prakriti joined SAMVEG IAS for interview guidance and attended four days of classes. Initially, she lacked confidence because it was her first interview. However, Samveg Sir kept assuring her that she was doing well.
She took many mock interviews and stayed in touch with Sir till her interview date. Moreover, Sir guided her on service preference. In her words, “If I had not followed Sir’s advice, I might have got some other post. I am a DSP today because of his guidance.”
Indeed, the journey of Prakriti Negi Rank 10 UKPSC 2024 proves that a setback can become a stepping stone.
