Uttarakhand has placed second among special category states in the RE-SAF ranking of the Union renewable energy ministry. RE-SAF stands for the Renewable Energy State Assessment Framework of MNRE. MNRE Secretary Santosh Sarangi conveyed the result to Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan on 31 October 2026. Moreover, the ministry praised the state for building a supportive clean energy ecosystem. Hence, the result brings national recognition to Uttarakhand’s green energy push.
Letter From the MNRE Secretary
In his letter, Secretary Sarangi congratulated the state government. He also acknowledged its continuous efforts despite several challenges. However, the available reports do not name the state that ranked first.
Honour at Bharat RE Summit 2026
Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan will honour Uttarakhand on 5 November 2026. In fact, the felicitation will take place at the valedictory session of the Bharat RE Summit and Expo 2026. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the four-day summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on 2 November.
How MNRE Assesses States Under RE-SAF
RE-SAF assesses states and Union Territories on their renewable energy performance. Specifically, it covers capacity addition, the policy and regulatory framework, and grid-related facilities. In addition, it scores DISCOM performance and the investment climate. Further, it aims to reward strong performers, promote healthy competition and spread best practices.
What CM Dhami Said
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed the ranking. According to him, the honour reflects the state’s commitment, sustained efforts and responsibility towards environmental protection. Moreover, he said the government is focusing on solar, hydro and small hydro sources. Finally, he linked the result to the national target of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030.
About Uttarakhand’s Solar Milestone
Earlier, in February 2026, Uttarakhand crossed 1 GW of installed solar capacity. At that time, the total stood at about 1,027.87 MW. Notably, the Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) led the implementation.
