Notably, the event took place at the EKA Arena (TransStadia) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It ran from 4 to 8 June 2026. Thus, the home of yoga also became its first world champion nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the championship virtually on 4 June 2026. Yogasana Bharat organised it with World Yogasana and the Indian Olympic Association. Moreover, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Ministry of Ayush supported the event. Its mascot was “Veer the Lion.”

In total, 522 athletes from 79 countries competed. Also, 31 nations won at least one medal. Ten countries won gold. India sent a 122-member team across six age groups. These ranged from sub-junior to senior categories.
How the Medal Table Looked
Japan finished second with 3 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals. Argentina came third with 2 gold and 3 silver medals. Interestingly, Argentina’s Nabila Barraza won all five of her country’s medals. Among Indians, Niral Wadekar of Pune won two golds. Similarly, BSF’s Satis Samble Tanaji won gold in the 35–45 years men’s twisting event.
What Is Competitive Yogasana?
Competitive yogasana turns yoga postures into a judged sport. Judges score balance, flexibility, strength and control. Events include individual routines as well as artistic and rhythmic pairs. Therefore, the format blends tradition with modern sport.
